Like many of you, I’ve been spending ridiculous amounts of time at home during this whole coronavirus thing.

How are you all doing? Hanging in? Me, too. Everything’s at home. Working, all the cooking, hanging out with no more than 10 people. If you’re single and live alone, just wondering, how are you staying connected with the outside world?

All this being home all the time seems like the perfect opportunity to talk more about the evolution of the making of home in my current abode.

Similar to choosing the wall color, I took my time in finding the major pieces to fill in my living room.

I had smallish pieces of furniture that I had collected over the years, like a tall secretary cabinet, and a small bookcase. Some pieces had been gifted to me, like the media cabinet in the form of a British telephone booth. Still others were outright given to me, like the Stickley side tables.

For a couple of months I sat in front of my tv in a Louis IV style chair with my feet up on a footstool that also was given to me.

It was a little bit depressing after a while, tbh.

All the while, I’d been looking around for a couch. It was super important to me to purchase a sofa that was big enough to double as a bed for overnight guests.

I found it at Ikea. Side note, I’ve never visited Ikea as much as when I first moved into my place.

I wanted a sofa that was affordable, of course, but also wasn’t contemporary, which is what you kinda think Ikea couches to be. I mean, it could be a touch on the modern side of the spectrum. But also, it had to hint back to traditional. Piece of cake, right?

Well, actually, yeah! I loved everything about this sofa. From the color, to the roll of the arms and the turning of the legs. I’m really picky about arms and legs. The arms don’t go up too high and have interesting detail. The legs also had understated detail that enhanced the character of the whole sofa while providing that same detail to the overall feeling I wanted to create in my living room. The blue hue gives weight to the light walls, really anchoring the room.

I also needed lamps for those vintage side tables. I looked around and around and finally found the ones at Pier1. These mercury glass beauts have an alluring bulb shape and a drum shade. They add just the right amount of sparkle and classic style.

To soften the lines of the side tables and the length of the sofa, I wanted a coffee table to offset that. This large round ottoman from Joss & Main created the perfect complement. Plus, it’s plush and comfortable enough to put your feet up!

All these separate elements, teamed together draws you in and invites you to sit, linger, and stay awhile.

I hope you’ll pop by! I’m making some tea, would you like some?
