Even though I’m packing up all of my belongings getting ready for this unanticipated move, I am determined to share about the time when I made over my bathroom! I mean, I went to Home Depot, I picked out the color, I went back to Home Depot, I did the work, I took the pictures. I can’t not share. It would’ve been like it never happened and I just can’t do that. I can’t. I can’t to you, and I can’t to me.

When I first moved into my place, everything was white. And kinda on the dingey side of white, at that. I mean, it could def use a fresh coat of somethin’.

I knew I wanted a fresh and light hue. Something like a clear blue sky or crystal sea you’d find in the exotic tropics. Which is why I settled in the light blue fam instead of a spa-like sagey green. Which was the other option.

I got my samples and painted the patches on the walls to help me choose. I lived with those patches for quite awhile.

And then, all at once, it was time to pull out my paint can and roller and brushes and drop cloth and tray and take a weekend day to transform my petite bathroom.

I’m not sure how long the white had been there, but I do know the person who lived there before me was there for about seven years and had never painted. So, needless to say, it was at least that old. And man oh man, did this shade of blue completely redefine everything about the room!

It was a little bit tricky deciding on where exactly to paint because the walls kind of roll up into the ceiling. There’s no definitive corner or point of “this is where the wall ends” and “this is where the ceiling begins.” So I chose to roll the color up on the ceiling, too.

Doing so kinda gave it a cocoon feel. The sky hue encapsulated the entire atmosphere of the bathroom. Like one of those summer days when there’s not a cloud in the sky and you’re staring up at it while laying on the grass.

The paint job isn’t perfect but that’s also because the walls aren’t perfect. They’re old and well, they are not pristine. But, just like the old timey architectural details of the rest of the house, that’s part of what gives it the charm it has.

I was really pleased with how everything came out. The afternoon sun shines through those windows like gang busters and causes everything to glow. The light refracts against those imperfect plaster walls that are now this beautiful azure and makes it all jolly. It’s also been a treat to find different hand towels that complement the color.

Isn’t it interesting how something as simple as changing out the colors on your walls can have such an effect on everything from mood to inspiration to creating a home environment that speaks to exactly who you are? I just find it to be one of the joys we get to experience in life. Those joys that kind of come around slowly and then smack you over the head with how great you find out it all is.

I’m looking forward to my next home and discovering how it will evolve. I, of course, have some things in mind already for what I’d like to see and accomplish. But I really think you can’t force something into a house. Not to sound all fruity-loopy, but I definitely think houses speak to what works in them and what doesn’t. So, that’ll be a fun adventure and I can hardly wait to share it with all of you, friends!
