It’s so important to do things throughout the day that lift the spirits, don’t you think? I understand that this may be a tough ask if you work in a corporate setting and commute ridiculous hours every week. The time of my life when I was doing that, I’d have just barely enough left in me to collapse by the time I’d get home.
But I do remember taking the time to search out those things that spoke to my soul. Sure, my commute was horrendously long and soul-sucking, so I found back roads that had lots of pretty homes to look at and meandered by the CT coastline. Instead of glaring at the line of bumpers that went on as far as I could see in front me, I’d look up and register the glorious hues of the winter sunsets.
Here are some other activities (or just things) that feed my soul:
A steaming cup of tea in one of my Kath Kidston mugs
Daydreaming
Taking the long way home so I can drive by the water
Watching the wildlife outside my kitchen window
Stopping to smell the flowers on display at Trader Joe’s
Watching Harry Potter under a blanket on the sofa
Enjoying a crackling fire
Sing-alongs
Adventures with my Main Squeeze
Walking in nature
Pausing to listen to a babbling brook or swishing stream or the quiet of the woods
Writing
Reading
Intellectual conversations with like-minded people
A good cry
Breathing crisp air in deeply
Twirling
Snuggles with my youngest littles
Morning coffee wrapped up in a blanket on the couch
Chilled wine around a bonfire on a hot summer night
Strolling through woods
Capturing the late afternoon sunlight in a photo
Worshiping Jesus
Journaling
Creating
Meandering the library stacks
Loving well
Watching Anne of Green Gables or Pride & Prejudice for the millionth time
Inventing a new delicious meal
Christmas movies
Eating dinner around the table
Praying
Hearing the wind howl around the house and getting that delicious chill up my spine
Driving around my hometown
Watching waves crash on the beach
Learning about a historical event
Sharing the love of Jesus
Reflecting during the quiet of the Advent season
Practicing gratitude
Gazing upon a crescent moon hanging in the sky
That first finding of winter constellations and Orion’s Belt
Laughing until my belly aches
Sharing stories of God’s goodness
Finding beauty in the ordinary
Creating order
Bundling up for a winter walk outside
Discovering old house details
Reading a Bella Grace magazine
Jamming to music while driving
Getting my hair done
Now it’s your turn, friend! What would you add to this list?
