I think I may have mentioned how I’ve started this quest to decrease the amount of toxins in my life? I’ve slowly been switching over from chemical-heavy personal care products like body sprays, for example, to quality essential oils and making my own body sprays and rollers. I’m also making the switch in my cosmetics and other personal care like shampoo/conditioner, body wash, body lotion…you know, pretty much everything you’d use on a daily basis for life.

I’m also trying to replace those harsh chemicals you find in household cleaning products with more natural cleaning methods and products.

One such method is with plain, old-fashioned baking soda and vinegar. I think my grandmother would be proud. I think even my great-grandmother.

Full disclaimer: I first saw using this duo as a cleaning hack on Instagram. It immediately made sense to me.

So I decided to try it out because I had a backed-up sink drain. And it helped! And, fun!

First, I dumped maybe about a half cup onto the drain plate and then poured the vinegar on top until all of the baking soda became wet. This method can be used for regular maintenance.

For tougher clogs, you can use 2 cups of baking soda to 1 cup of vinegar and cover with a washcloth for about 10 minutes or so.

The fun part is watching the baking soda and vinegar react to each other. The bubbling is totally normal.

This is such a fantastic and dynamic duo. It can be made into a paste to clean tough stains or make surfaces sparkling bright. You can mix them together with some water, leave overnight in your oven, and clean those drippings and stains from all those yummy meals that you lovingly made.

Have you ever used baking soda and vinegar together to clean tough stains? Do you have another natural cleaning hack that you’d swear by? Let me know!
