I nabbed this cute little itsy bitsy succulent at church on Mother’s Day. They were giving them away to the moms. I’m not one of those but I like succulents. You could say I’m a succulent Mom.
Me being me, the brown plastic pot it came in juuust wasn’t pretty enough. Also, it was messy. Who likes bits of soil on their table? Not this girl.
The thought occurred to me to use a vessel from my distant past as a pot. Growing up, my Grandmother had this accordion cabinet full of little treasures like a mismatched tea set, little figurine toys like soldiers and cowboys, a little ball. I’d play with these when visiting her in between kid-time at the pool where she lived in Leisure Village East.
I thought to myself, maybe there’s something from that collection I could use for this tiny succulent!
Behold, there was!
I debated between the sugar bowl and the teapot. Obvs, the teapot won. I love the quirkiness of it and that it’s chipped. (That cabinet fell over once and things kinda tumbled around and smashed.) I also love that it is repurposed and a reminder of my Grandmother. I think she’d appreciate my frugality. She was quite the resourceful gal.
Here’s to you, Grandma!
I used some pebbles I found at the beach one sunny day for the base. And then just kinda stuck the dirt bulb into the teapot opening. I’m not much of a gardener but I have repotted a plant before. Once. One time before. When I was being closely watched and instructed step by step. So, this should totally work, right? Totes.
Now I have this cute itsy bitsy succulent in a cute itsy bitsy play teapot. It’s not super conventional, it’s a little bit creative and outside of that box-thing.
That’s what I love about this whole homemaking process. It’s totally you. And you can take it in whatever direction you’d like. You can also change course if it strikes your fancy. Perhaps, most of all, like this plant, it has a chance to grow over time. Grow with the different seasons life brings us to, and grow along the journey.
Happy planting, friends!
