As I believe I’ve mentioned, I moved earlier this year. Again.
For someone who naturally craves a “forever” home, I tend to move around kinda frequently.
If you don’t know the story, I recently moved back to my childhood home to help out my elderly, newly widowed mother. It’s not a huuuuge house, but it is a lot to take care of for an Octogenarian. You may also be thinking, but, Kristina, you’re also a real estate agent, why didn’t you just sell it? Well, friend, because my family loves this home and we didn’t want to sell it.
While we’re still working through purging decades of stuff and junk we accumulated, I did want to share some tips I utilized for organizing how I packed up my things to transfer them back to my family home.
One method I find to be super helpful is to write out an inventory sheet of what’s in each packed bin. I first did this when I packed up my boxes to ship them back from England. Oh, yeah, I also lived in England for a year for grad school. If you’re interested in hearing about that, let me know in the comments below!
I utilized this strategy again when I moved into my last place and realized there wasn’t enough room to unpack all of my collected kitchenware. So I created detailed inventory lists for the things I kept packed away. These were just simple, hand-written on a piece of lined notebook paper. Easy-peasy!
I then placed the sheets on the top of the bin, just under the lid and so I could read them. I tend to buy clear bins, so this proved helpful when checking to see what was where.
If you want to get even more organizationally wacky, make a copy of the inventory sheets and place them on both a long and short side, facing outward, of course. That way, no matter which way it’s stored on a shelf or floor, you can read what’s inside!
Instant organization party!
This method really helped me this go-around. I knew I had some items that had been packed away that I no longer wanted packed away and so having the inventory sheets really aided in my ability to easily find what I was looking for!
I’m just so excited about it, I created this Inventory Sheet bundle! Whether you like numbering your items or prefer a checkbox, I’ve got you covered! Click here if you’d like a free download!
Until next time, I’ll keep the kettle warm and the cushions fluffed!
Happy homemaking friends!
